We are well into spring, and the weather is starting to peak at temperatures that make us want to take a half day and head to the beach.
All of that in accumulation with the fact that Cinco de Mayo is next week means that it’s time to celebrate. And, what better way than by making these three fun, colorful streamers?
Mix up a margarita and get to crafting! Your mood will thank you.
1. Pom Pom Streamers
Take the yarn and wrap it around the fork so that it is perpendicular to the tine. The more you wrap the yarn, the thicker your poof will be. Cut yarn once you get desired thickness.
Take the craft twine and place it between the middle of the tines running parallel with them.
Tie the twine in a knot around the yarn.
Remove the fork and begin wrapping the yarn around it again to make another poof.
Position the fork along the twine your desired distance away from the first poof. Knot the twine in the middle of the fork.
Continue making poofs and moving down the twine to reach your desired length. Then, take the scissors through both looped ends of the poofs and clip.
You can pull on the twine to tighten the center of the pom pom.
Fluff the pom poms with your fingers to get them to fan out fully.
2. Tissue Paper Rectangular Streamers
- three different colored pieces of tissue paper yarn
- a stapler
- colorful staples
Cut the tissue paper in to long rectangular pieces. I followed the fold from the tissue paper packet, which is about 5 inches wide by the length of the tissue.
Layer the three different colored pieces of tissue paper on top of one another, and then cut in to rectangular pieces. Mine ended up being around 5 inches by 6.5 inches.
Take your yarn, and fold the rectangles over it about 2/3 of the way. Secure it down with two staples.
Continue this pattern of folding and securing the rectangles over the yarn.
Vertically cut in to the tissue paper to create fringe. At this point, clean up any uneven edges. Just be careful not to cut the yarn!
You can cut fringe in to both layers of the tissue or just in to one section. Your choice!
3. Dip-Dyed Doily Streamers
- pack of paper doilies
- food coloring
- a container that won’t stain.
Mix up your desired color for the doilies, and dip them in the colored water.
Let them dry on a cooling rack. This could take about an hour.
Take the yarn and string it through the holes in the doily to secure its spot.
Continue stringing and securing the doilies down the desired length of your yarn.
Hang up all three vibrant streamers and let the festivities begin! At the very least, these will brighten up your space.
